LABOR MP MICHAEL DANBY EXPOSES LIBERAL MPs, MINING MAGNATES WHO FAWN TO COMMUNIST CHINA
(Michael Danby,MP For Melbourne Ports)
So Julie Bishop has a Huawei-donated iPad. Dangerous. Dangerous for
her and dangerous for Australia if she ever aspires to become Foreign
Minister. The iPad alone is but one of the micro details to emerge
from Ms Bishop’s visit to China as a guest of the Chinese telco.
Some Liberals led by Julie Bishop together with vested mining
interests questioned the Gillard Government’ accepting ASIO’s advice
against letting Huawei bid for the National Broadband Network. But the
bar on Huawei has wider significance because the controversy it has
sparked illuminates the most vexing issue of Australian foreign policy
- our relationship with China.
.....
There are two Chinas - one, The Republic of China, comprising the island of Taiwan, a free and democratic independent country, the other, Communist China, misleadingly called "The Peoples' Republic of China", is a one-party dictatorship run by a bandit gang of freaks and monsters called the Chinese Communist Party that installed itself by force in 1949 and has never been elected by the Chinese people. In fact Communism in China has killed 45 million Chinese people.

8/1/2012 PAUL HOWES, WORKERS' UNION SECRETARY, WARNS ABOUT THE THREAT OF COMMUNIST CHINA
Writing in the Daily Telegraph Jan 8 2012, Paul Howes, outspoken ALP heavy and Secretary of the Australan Workers' Union, said:
It's easy to get caught up in the amazing story of China's growth and
the economic potential it presents for Australia. So easy, in fact,
that it's easy to forget China is still the world's largest
totalitarian dictatorship.
It’s a nation where the heavy hand of the state looms large, where the
current rulers maintain their power through a repressive military
apparatus and where people who seek freedom of expression or religion
are regularly and systematically oppressed.
In China, there are no elections. There’s no free speech. There’s no
free media. There’s no independent justice system. There are no
independent trade unions...
in the past decade, close to 48,000 Chinese miners have
been killed at work. ....
I spoke as part of a forum in Parliament House, Sydney, 22nd November on the
Future of the Left, with Keith Windshuttle, David
Shoebridge MP and Wendy Bacon. I pointed out that not only
had the Labor Party abandoned its old principles by embracing economic
rationalism, but the Liberals had also abandoned theirs.I pointed out how Coalition MPs had fallen over themselves to support the
condolence motion for Mao on 14/9/1976 and now never criticize
Communist China, a role left to the so-called
far-left Greens Party. I mentioned the confused speech Malcolm
Turnbull made recently to the LSE praising China. I said it should be
a criminal offence to deny the Chinese Holocaust in the same way as in
some European countries it is a criminal offence to deny the Nazi
holocaust. I put an informal vote to
the audience as to who agreed. There was a narrow victory in favour of my point of view..
22/12/2011 The Communist Party may be showing greater tolerance towards the flourishing of faiths on the mainland, but as far as its own members go, there is no room for religion.
Zhu Weiqun , a top official in charge of Tibetan affairs, endorsed this view in an article he wrote in the party magazine Seeking Truth.
"If we let party members believe in religion ... this will inevitably result in splits in the party's ideology and its organisation," wrote Zhu, an executive deputy minister at the United Front Work Department.
Zhu wrote that allowing party members to have religious faith would shake Marxism's status as the nation's guiding ideology, it would weaken the party's ability to fight separatist movements, and it would confuse the party's role to supervise religions on the mainland.
His article follows reports that suggest that a growing number of party members are turning to religion. Analysts said that while religious beliefs of all faiths were on the rise, the officially atheist communist government was wary about religious groups becoming popular and getting beyond its control.
Within the party, some members were getting caught up in the religious revival and had been violating party rules by becoming active religious believers, Zhu said.
"Party organs at various levels and all party members must maintain a clear mind and never waver in the least to adhere to this principle under any circumstance," Zhu said.
He added that the Communist Party's Marxist ideology and its philosophy of dialectical materialism were in conflict with all religions.
"All religions, without any exception, belong to idealism. And in philosophy, there is fundamental conflict between materialism and idealism, which cannot co-exist, no matter when it is applied to any individual and political party," Zhu said.
Since market reforms were launched in the late 1970s, Beijing has loosened control over various aspects of people's lives, including religion, in a bid to gain their support for reforms.
However, freedom of religious belief was granted only on the condition that believers also supported the rule of the Communist Party and observed socialist laws, thus placing the state and party before religion.
Though the days of communism being a state religion of sorts - when party members or even ordinary Chinese citizens confessed their sins and made vows before statues of late leader Mao Zedong - are long gone, in theory, the ruling party still imposes its religion-style ideology on its members.
In practice, it suppresses religions seen as a threat to its grip on power.
For instance, while the party encourages some mainstream religions, such as Buddhism and Taoism, to fill the faith vacuum, it has also tightened its control over Catholic believers.
Beijing views the Catholic Church as a serious threat, as Catholicism had played a key role in the collapse of communism in Poland.
14/10/2011 Conficius Institutes run by the Chinese Communist Party are seeking access to NSW Schools ostensibly to spread Chinese language and culture, but actually to re-write history in the minds of the students ensuring knowledge of the millions killed by Maoism, the Tiananmen Square massacre, the subjugation of Tibet, the China's backing of Pol Pot, organ-harvesting of falun gong and other political prisoners, the one child policy with its assiciated infaniticde and forced abortions and all the other atrocities of 50 years of Chinese communism are supressed...
9/11/2011 MORE DIRTY WORK FROM THE CCP - FAKE ELECTRONIC PARTS
"Sprinkling" is a process of mixing authentic electronic parts with fake ones in
hopes that the counterfeits will not be detected when companies test
the components for multimillion-dollar missile systems, helicopters
and aircraft. It was just one of the brazen steps described at
a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing examining the national
security and economic implications of fake electronics parts
— mostly from China — inundating the Pentagon's supply chain.
The committee found about 1800 cases of
suspect counterfeit electronics, involving more than 1 million parts, being sold to the Pentagon. It costs the US $US7.5 billion a year in
lost revenue and about 11,000 US jobs.

5/9/2011 CHINA OFFERED LIBYA'S GADDAFI WEAPONS TO KEEP HIM IN POWER
China offered huge stockpiles of weapons to Muammar Qaddafi during the
final months of his regime and held secret talks on shipping them
through Algeria and South Africa, The Globe and Mail reported.
State-controlled Chinese arms companies were ready to sell weapons and
ammunition worth at least $200 million to Qaddafi in late July,
despite UN sanctions, the Canadian daily said, citing secret documents.
The documents do not confirm whether any military assistance was
delivered, but senior members of Tripoli’s new ruling council say they
reinforce their suspicions about the recent actions of China, Algeria
and South Africa, the report said on Sunday.
Algeria, China and South Africa have been reluctant to endorse NATO’s
actions in Libya.
18/8/2011 ONE-CHILD POLICY HAS CAUSED A
HOLOCAUST OF FEMALE ABORTIONS
Beijing has pledged to crack down heavily on sex-selective abortions
in an effort to correct China's male-female imbalance.
The sex ratio at birth was 119 newborn boys for every 100 newborn girls in 2009.
An eight-month crackdown, involving the
ministries of health, public security and the National Population and
Family Planning Commission, is intended to help achieve significant
rebalancing of the sex ratio at birth by 2015.
"..selective sex abortion is the primary reason for the imbalanced
sex ratio," commission director Li Bin told a national conference.
The selective abortions began after the one-child policy
was introduced three decades ago to curb population growth.
22/8/11 CHINESE COMMUNIST JUSTICE - AUSTRALIAN BUSINESSWOMAN HELD WITHOUT TRIAL
CHINA'S legal system has struck again against a successful Australian
business person - this time a single mother who founded a private
university in Guangzhou.
The case of Charlotte Chou has been kept quiet since she was taken
from her home on June 24, 2008, while her one-year-old boy was asleep.
Ms Chou was interrogated while being deprived of sleep for several
days, without access to a lawyer, and later convicted of bribery on
the basis of those confessions, her family say. She was released in
December 2009 and re-arrested at the prison gate.
The next chapter in Ms Chou's ordeal will take place next Tuesday when
she will be tried for embezzlement.
QUIT THE CCP RALLY SYDNEY BELMORE PARK, CENTRAL, AUGUST 7, 2011
On Sunday August 7 a rally was held in Belmore Park, Sydney, to acknowledge the millions of Chinese people who have quit the Chinese Communist Party, and to call on more to do the same. Speakers were from from China, Vietnam, Australia and Tibet. Website owner Bob Vinnicombe said "Today we should support the brave Chinese people who have endangered their careers and their liberty to quit the CCP .
The CCP is an organization built on the doctrine of Marxism - Leninism-Stalinism-Maoism that is a flawed ideology that has led to death and destruction wherever it has been practised....
2/8/2011 CHINA BLAMES PAKISTAN FOR HARBOURING UIGHUR REBELS
A statement on the recent attacks by the Kashgar municipal government
in Xinjiang, carried in state run Xinhua news agency said “Initial probe has shown
that the heads of the group had learned skills of making explosives
and firearms in overseas camps of the ETIM terrorist group in Pakistan
before entering Xinjiang to organize terrorist activities.”
(NY Times 25/6/2007) Many big companies have sought to break into the
Chinese market, but few of them have been as
ardent and unrelenting as Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation.
Mr. Murdoch has flattered Communist Party leaders and done business with
their children. His Fox News network helped China’s leading state
broadcaster develop a news Web site. He joined hands with the Communist
Youth League, a power base in the ruling party, in a risky television
venture, his China managers and advisers say.
Mr. Murdoch’s third wife, Wendi, is a mainland Chinese who once worked for
his Hong Kong-based satellite broadcaster, Star TV.
Mr. Murdoch cooperates closely with China’s censors and state
broadcasters, several people who worked for him in China say.
In speeches and interviews, Mr. Murdoch often supports the policies of
Chinese leaders and attacks their critics.
21/6/2011 CHINESE EDITION OF BLOODY HARVEST - EXPOSING ORGAN HARVESTING LAUNCHED
The Chinese language edition of Bloody Harvest, by David Matas and David Kilgour, was launched in Sydney on June 20 at the Tianti Bookshop in George St. Speaking about the book co-author David Matas said the killing of Falun Gong practitioners for their organs by the Chinese Communist regime was actually increasing, and was now being extended to political dissidents in Tibet and to the Uigyers, the Turkic minority of Western China. David Matas was introduced by Sev Ozdowski, himself a refugee from Communist Poland in the 1970s and a former Human Rights Commissioner.

15/6/2011 LABOR SUPPORTS CHINESE COMMUNIST OCCUPATION OF TIBET
Supported by the Coalition, a motion from Senators Bob Brown and Nick Xenophon backing the wishes of the Tibetan people to have the Dalai Lama return to Tibet was passed in the Senate today. The government opposed the motion, which reads:
That the Senate:
a. endorses the meetings of His Holiness the Dalai Lama with Coalition leaders Messers Tony Abbott and Warren Truss, and Australian Greens Leader Senator Bob Brown;
b. expresses disappointment that neither the Prime Minister (Ms Gillard) nor the Minister for Foreign Affairs (Mr Rudd) were available to meet His Holiness the Dalai Lama;
c. notes that the last Prime Minister to meet His Holiness was Mr John Howard in 2007; and
d. wishes the people of Tibet well in their aspiration to have His Holiness return home to Tibet's capital, Lhasa.
10/7/2011 MORE CHRISTIANS THAN COMMUNIST PARTY MEMBERS IN CHINA NOW
While Christianity is in decline in Britain and most of Europe, it is growing and thriving in China, where the number of people in church on Sunday is greater than the total membership of the Communist Party, in the land that in 1958 Chairman Mao had declared “religion free”. The people flocking to the churches are not, as Karl Marx would have predicted, the poor and oppressed searching for the opium of the people. They are the young, hard-working, upwardly-mobile entrepreneurs for whom Christianity offers an ethical framework, a structured view of life and its disciplines, in a society experiencing rapid transition.
18/5/2011 CHINA HIGH ON THE LIST OF ORGAN TRAFFICKING COUNTRIES
The nominally communist country has one of the world's highest execution rates, and dead convicts provide a ready supply of healthy young organs. Once patients arrive in China and the deal is set up, organisers will often force them to compete for the organs in intense bidding wars, Budiani says. "They will get into a situation in the hospital where they are waiting to see who will get the first organ from an executed prisoner," and the highest bidder gets first pick, even though prices are normally negotiated before foreigners arrive in China.

When George W. Bush assumed office as president in
2001, he called mainland China a strategic competitor and the new

mainland. It is little exaggeration to say that bin Laden saved China
from American containment and isolation

26/4/2011 CHINESE COMMUNISTS UNEASY ABOUT CALLS FOR DEMOCRACY FROM THE MILITARY
China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) Daily ran a full page of
articles recently to rouse the military and prepare its men for what
it called a "war without gun smoke."
The six articles, published on March 29, were intended to refute,
among other things, three core demands made by advocates of political
reform in the military.
The demands call for:
* A neutral military, which does not take sides with any one
political force;
* A military that is under the command of the state rather than
the party, namely the Chinese Communist Party (CCP); and
* A professional military, which devotes more time to training
than to political indoctrination of the rank and file.
The tragic outcome of the 1989 Tiananmen crackdown on pro-democracy
demonstrators had prompted reform-minded activists to push for the
changes.
11/4/2011 FEARS OF NEW CRACKDOWN AS 160 CHRISTIANS HELD
More than 160 Christians were taken away by Beijing police yesterday
as they tried to attend an outdoor service after being evicted from
their usual place of worship, the church's pastor said, in what
appears to be the largest crackdown on unofficial churches in years.
The move prompted fears that a new round of persecution is under way
on underground churches.
23/3/2011 MAINLAND CHINESE BIGGEST OVERSEAS BUYERS OF SYDNEY REAL ESTATE
According to the South China Morning Post mainland Chinese have been the biggest overseas buyers of real estate in Sydney since 2005. In some blocks of new home units the majority of the units are being bought by buyers in China and Hong Kong.
China suspended approvals for new nuclear power plants yesterday and ordered comprehensive checks of existing facilities to close safety loopholes amid growing concern stoked by Japan's unfolding crisis. In a surprise move, the State Council also announced that it would review and adjust its ambitious plan to expand the nuclear power sector by 2020, which Beijing hopes will help reduce the country's reliance on coal and cut emissions of greenhouse gases.
A senior Heilongjiang official yesterday confirmed the mainland was considering letting residents in five provinces have a second child if one of the parents was an only child.
Since the time that the Dalai Lama fled his homeland in 1959, the government of Tibet, called the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), has been in exile and is not formally recognized by any other governments. New elections are scheduled on March 20 when the 44 members of the Tibetan Parliament-in-exile will be selected.
CHINESE CONSULATE IN SYDNEY PRESSURES AUSTRALIANS TO BOYCOTT SHEN YUN SHOW
Pictured is a press release put out by the Chinese Communist Consulate General in Sydney to dissuade people from attending the Falun Gong-sponsored Shen Yun Performing Arts show in Sydney.
As you can see, they describe Falun Gong as a "cult camouflaging itself as a religion". They say "In order to protect human rights and safeguard public interests the Chinese Government outlawed the Falun Gong cult in 1999. However in Australia Falun Gong continues to engage in political activism aimed at vilifying the Chinese Government and undermining China-Australia relations". They accuse falun gong of exercising "extreme mental manipulaion on its followers."
The Chinese communists know about mind manipulation because they have brainwashed an entire nation!
They know all about human rights because they put falun gong practitioners in jail and kill them so they can sell their organs on the black market for transplant! Under chinese communism since the 1949 takeover millions have been killed!
At a media conference at the Capitol theatre in Sydney today, February 21, 2011, where Shen Yun is being featured, Mr John Deller, Director for Universal Cultural Communications, the company
running the Shen Yun Show, outlined the pressure the Chinese Consulate had been exerting to dissuade people from attending Shen Yun. Guests Rev Dr Gordon Moyes, MLC and Ian Cohen MLC plus two representatives from the Vietnamese community spoke against the actions of the Chinese Government. Rev Gordon Moyes said he was getting emails all the time from students he had made contact with in China, after having made several visits to China, about the repression there. He mentioned he was well acqainted with Bloody Harvest the expose of organ harvesting in China done by Nobel Peace Prize nominees Canadian lawyers David Kilgour and David Matas.
The representatives from the Vietnamese community expressed solidarity because they had seen their country overtaken by the communists also. One said many Vietnamese people in Sydney had attended the show.
60 PER CENT OF THE WORLD'S OPPRESSED PEOPLE LIVE IN CHINA - PETER HARTCHER
Peter Hartcher, Internatinal Affairs Editor of the Sydney Morning Herald writes on February 15, 2011 that 'Of all the people in the world living under political repression, in countries classified by Freedom House as "not free," fully six out of 10 now live in China.'
Freedom House is an independent watchdog organization that supports
the expansion of freedom around the world. Freedom House supports
democratic change and advocates for democracy and
human rights.
Since its founding in 1941 by prominent Americans concerned with the
mounting threats to peace and democracy, Freedom House has been a
vigorous proponent of democratic values and a steadfast opponent of
dictatorships. Eleanor Roosevelt
and Wendell Willkie were the first honorary
co-chairmen.
Countries are rated on a scale of 1 to 7 on an index of Political
Rights and Civil Liberties. 1 being highest. China gets the lowest
rank of 7 on Political Rights along with Libya, North Korea, Syria
and Vietnam, and 6 on the scale of Civil Liberties. The ranking of
China for political rights is even worse than that of Zimbabwe, which
gets a 6. In Zim of course they do actually go through the motions of
having some semblance of elections, whereas the practical-minded
Chinese communists have done away with that irritating concept of
elections altogether.
The Republic of China, Taiwan, which has no seat at the United
Nations and is not recognized by the Australian Government, gets the
highest rankng of 1 for Political Rights.
Fiji on which Australia has trade sanctions, ranks higher than China
for Political Rights (6) and much higher (4) for Civil Liberties.

COMMUNIST CHINA WANTS PEACE - A PIECE OF THIS COUNTRY, A PIECE OF THAT COUNTRY...
China's growing military assertiveness has alarmed its neighbours and prompted the US to keep a high profile on Asian waters. It has been pressing claims on disputed waters and seeking new weapons and warships. Liang Guanglie, the Chinese defence minister, said on Wednesday that the country's booming economy is driving its military might.
"In the next five years, our economy and society will develop faster, boosting comprehensive national power," Liang said. "We will take the opportunity and speed up modernisation of the military."
Liang said China's military would continue to advance its capability to fight and win high-tech wars, while also boosting its conventional arsenal.
He said the the 2.3-million-strong People's Liberation Army plans to do this all without foreign aid.
"We will stand on our own feet to solve the problem and develop our equipment," Liange said, "The modernisation of the Chinese military cannot depend on others, and cannot be bought."
China's increasing military spending has generated concern among its neighbours, but Chinese officials insist that they are only interested in peace and that its naval build-up is not a threat.
The US, however, sees Beijing as a potential threat to its once unrivalled dominance of the Pacific.
China ended military relations with Washington a year ago in protest against a multi-billion-dollar US arms package for rival Taiwan.
The two nations have since resumed low-level military contacts at a technical level, but Liange has invited his US counterpart, Robert Gates, for talks in Beijing from January 9-12 agains a backdrop of increased tensions in Northeast Asia.

MORE COMMUNIST CHINESE BLACKMAIL - RESTRICTING SUPPLY OF RARE EARTHS
China has announced a reduction in its export quota for rare earth minerals, further shrinking global supplies of metals used in a wide range of high-tech products.
The Chinese commerce ministry said on Tuesday it will cut down export of the minerals by more than 11 per cent in the first half of next year.
Beijing says its curbs are for environmental reasons and to guarantee supplies to domestic industrial consumers.
In a short statement on its website, the commerce ministry said it had added more producer companies to the quota list, but had cut volumes allocated to trading companies.
The new numbers say China is allocating 13,105 tonnes of rare earths among 31 companies, down from 14,790 tonnes allocated among 22 companies in the first batch of quotas this year.
China, which produces about 97 per cent of the world's supply of rare earth elements, slashed its quota by 40 per cent in 2010.

Australia's reputation for producing high quality food is drawing increasing numbers of foreign investors.Companies from the Middle East to China are spending billions of dollars buying up Australian farmland and agribusinesses, shoring up their food security for the future.

QANTAS has been ordered to reinstate a flight attendant banned from international duties over her practise of Falun Gong.
Sheridan Genrich, from Sydney’s Lane Cove, was demoted to a short-haul attendant after she was threatened by authorities during a 2008 stopover in Beijing and deported because of her spiritual beliefs. In making his ruling, Fair Work Australia Commissioner Frank Raffaelli said he was unimpressed with the way Qantas had carried out its investigation into Ms Genrich's case. "The implication of Qantas's action is that there is a restriction on the practice of her spiritual beliefs in private, which is contrary to both Australian and international law," Commissioner Raffaelli said in his judgement, which was obtained by The Epoch Times.

DAVID CAMERON ADMONISHES CHINA ON HUMAN RIGHTS
British PM David Cameron will risk infuriating his Chinese hosts today with an extraordinary denunciation of their repressive political regime. The Prime Minister, who is on a high-profile state visit to Beijing, will use a public speech to champion democratic elections, a free media and independent courts as vital for a modern economy. Mr Cameron will point out that were he not in China, he would today be facing questions from the Opposition in the House of Commons. His Chinese counterparts, on the other hand, have ruthlessly crushed all political dissent.

China's one-child policy leads to an estimated 13 million reported abortions every year, with many of those ordered by the authorities enforcing the system.
Al Jazeera's Melissa Chan gained access to a hospital in the southeastern city of Xiamen, where she found one mother in a terrible condition.
Xiao Ai Ying was forced to have an abortion eight months into her pregnancy because she already has a ten-year-old girl.
Forced abortions sometimes happen in remote areas of China, but this one occurred in one of the country's most modern cities. They are not condoned by the central government.
Mothers who violate China's one-child policy usually pay a fine anywhere from $1 to $40,000, but are then often sterilised to prevent them from having another child.
Although the officials figures of 13 million abortions seem high, physicians and medical researchers quoted by the state-run newspaper China Daily on Thursday said that once unreported and medication-induced abortions are counted, the actual number is substantially higher.
The rate of abortion in China is about 24 abortions for every 1,000 women between the ages of 15 and 44, the World Health Organisation and the Guttmacher Institute said in a joint report.
In 2003, the report put the number of abortions in China at nine million, out of a total of 42 million worldwide.

The Truth About Tibet
Tibet, about one and a half times the size of the State of NSW, a country of snow-covered mountains where all the major rivers of Asia originate, is a country under occupation by the Chinese Communists.
Tibetans are not chinese, they have their own language, their own culture,
their own religion, their own traditions, their own history.
The Chinese Communists invaded Tibet and took it over in 1949. It was as if Indonesia were to invade Australia, declare it a province of Indonesia, force everyone to speak Indonesian, put their own administration in place in Canberra, and kill or imprison any of us who resisted.

23/9/2010 ABC RADIO MARK COLVIN ON PM - BOOK DETAILS HOW MAO'S POLICIES KILLED 45 MILLION
MARK COLVIN: The 20th Century brought forth many monsters; many of them are recognised as such.
Very few people have any illusions about the scale and atrociousness of the actions of Pol Pot, Stalin or Hitler.
But for some reason, Mao Zedong has escaped some of the disgust and contempt that most people retroactively feel for the dictators of the last century.
There are still shops selling Mao memorabilia, from posters and badges to copies of the Little Red Book.
But even if people think they're using these things ironically, how long will they be able to do so as more evidence of Mao's infamy emerges?
A new book, based on meticulous research in the Chinese archives, says Mao Zedong was responsible for the deaths of 45 million people between 1958 and 1962 alone.
It's called "Mao's Great Famine: A History of China's Most Devastating Catastrophe", and its author is the scholar Frank Dikotter, of Hong Kong University.
The big numbers and the small details are simply mind boggling.
China's tentacles are expanding into Sri Lanka. The first phase of Sri Lanka's Hambantota project, a showpiece of the country's significant and growing cooperation with China, is almost complete. Filling the harbor basin with water for the port on the southern tip of the island begins on August 15 and the first ship is expected to dock at the port by November.Hambantota is several nautical miles north of a major shipping route that links the Suez Canal with the Malacca Strait, which about 36,000 ships cross annually. Once the entire project is completed, it is expected to transform Sri Lanka into an important transshipment hub.
(Sydney Morning Herald)In the two financial years that had the heaviest impact on the last federal election, 2006-07 and 2007-08, he gave $980,000 to the Coalition and $402,000 to Labor.
Besides the strong links Chau forged with the former prime minister John Howard and other senior Coalition ministers, he seems to have been adept at singling out future stars of the Labor government. In 2004 and 2005 he partially funded trips to China for the future prime minister, Kevin Rudd, the future treasurer, Wayne Swan, the future foreign affairs minister, Stephen Smith, and the future agriculture minister, Tony Burke.
He also paid for a trip to China in 2005 by Mark Arbib, the then NSW Labor secretary and now parliamentary factional leader in Canberra.
The EU, China’s largest single trading partner, is rapidly running out of patience with China’s continued refusal to create a level playing field for EU firms. Leading European businessmen claim Beijing has violated its trade treaty commitments to increase protections for its domestic firms.

VIDEO SHOWS THE INFAMOUS ONE-CHILD POLICY TO BE COUNTER PRODUCTIVE
China introduced its so-called one-child policy more than three decades ago as a control mechanism when rapid population growth was outstripping growth in the country's food supply.
Married couples in cities were limited to just one child as part of the government's family planning programme implemented in 1979, when the birth rate was three children per woman.
By 2008 the birth rate had dropped to 1.8 children per woman.
The government says over 400 million births have been prevented as a result of the policy without it, the population today would have been 1.7 billion people, instead of 1.3 billion.
But the city of Yicheng has challenged this claim.
Chinese authorities selected Yicheng 30 years ago for a secret experiment: to act as a control group to see what would happen if families had the freedom to have more than one child.
And the population there has actually grown at a slower rate than the national average, as Al Jazeera's Melissa Chan reports.
